If you are flying, book your airline reservation into San Diego International Airport.
You can reserve a car and pick it up at the airport, or, for about $30, you can take a taxi to the hotel. Once on the island, there really isn’t much need for a car ~ I walk everywhere I want to go, or there are trollies and public busses if you’d rather ride.
There are plenty of delicious restaurants and cafes for lunch and dinner. I can make reservations for dinner for the group each night if that is something that you would like to do!
